About

A few things have changed since Literacy Loving Gals was born in July 2014. A few weeks after it was set in motion, the only Gal left on the blog is me, so it's technically no longer *Gals*. My literacy pals decided blogging wasn't their forte. No worries! I will continue to share ideas I learn alongside all of my gals, so the name will remain Literacy Loving Gals! :)

Colleen Noffsinger
I’m Colleen and this is year number 23 in education for me. I’m a gal who loves teaching primary students. Over the past 23 years, I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade. About 9 years ago, I switched out of the classroom and to become a Reading Specialist in a K-5 elementary school. Teaching reading to children is my true passion. As of last year, I changed my role. I am a K-2 MTSS Reading Interventionist, as well as a K-5 Literacy Coach. I'm thrilled at the opportunity this role has provided me at improving my leadership qualities in the area of literacy.

I was born and raised in the western suburbs of the Chicagoland area, which is also where I teach. While teaching in my former school 14 years ago, I met my husband. He was a substitute art teacher in my school. After many months of seeing one another in the halls, he asked me out on our first date with a little note in my mailbox (so sweet!). We’ve never parted since that first date, even though he left my school to become a full-time art teacher in another district. We married three years later and now have a set of boy-girl twins after being together for 14 years. Needless to say, my husband and I partake in a busy household!
I thank God everyday for all of the blessings in my life, including the opportunity to read educational blogs created by others. I never dreamed I would be starting a blog about my literacy adventures, but reassurance from friends and family lead me here. After reading numerous blogs over the years to gain insight from others, I decided to contribute my ideas as well. Hopefully, what I share will be helpful to someone out there in the blogging world.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about *The Gal*.
:) Colleen

So glad to find you guys! A group of reading specialists I've found through blogs have joined together for a few events (one is Michelle at Big Time Literacy), and it'd be great to add you to the group. Find me on Facebook and we'll make that happen. https://www.facebook.com/comprehensionconnection

Hello, Carla! Well, we're glad you found us, too! We'll be joining you in the blog hop. Yay! Michelle at Bigtime Literacy is a co-worker in our district. She's the inspiration for us starting up this blog. ;)

Sorry, Kathleen! Just getting this comment. Susan and I worked together last year in the same school. However, Nancy will be new to our school this year, even though we've all been in the same district. Now, our rooms will be right next to each other. :)
