October *Currently*

October has finally arrived.  One of my favorite months.  I love the idea of cooler weather, with the sun but without the humidity, celebrating Halloween and it's my birthday month!  How can I not love October?  Anyway, I'm linking up with Farley for her October Currently.

Listening: I'm listening to the waterfall in the fish tank, while I sit in the office getting some work done.  The fish are all lined up along the side of the fish tank hoping it's feeding time.  My husband takes care of that, though.  He's a fish tank junkie.  We have more than one tank... :)

Loving: I'm loving the idea of attending my very first Illinois Reading Conference (IRC)!  How can I be a Reading Specialist and never have attended the IRC?  Strange, I know, but I've  attended numerous other conferences related to literacy.  The IRC is big time, though! Anyway, I'll be heading to Springfield after school today with some colleagues to learn loads of reading information and maybe relax a little.  No children for a few days, just the gals hanging out. ;)

Thinking: What all do I need to pack for the IRC?  I know to lack some nicer-casual outfits, so all set there.  However, I'm such a snacker and feel I should pack some goodies, but deciding on which goodies is the tricky part. :)

Wanting: I'm wanting to grow professionally and learn lots at the IRC.  I'm also wanting to cross off some more items on my Someday List and attending the IRC, at least once, is on my list! ;)
Needing: I'm needing to vacuum out my minivan to rid the Cheerios and Goldfish crackers from the seat crevices and floor!  People may be riding back from the IRC with me, so I'd like them to feel comfortable in the car, not like an animal trapped in a moving food cart.

Trick or Treat: Treat! Check out the ScreenChomp App!  It's great for lots of classroom activities!

Don't forget to link up with Farley to share your Currently.

Have a great October!

  1. I love the Screen Chomp app, kids love it too! My hubby graciously vacuumed out our car the day before yesterday, and I'm loving the lack of french fries and crushed snacks in the seat and on the floor (not to mention the fact that it smells better too!)

  2. Enjoy your conference! You will come back with so many great ideas! I always make a list of ideas when I am there and then pick one or two to implement right away. I revisit my list in a month or so to see what other things inspired me. Enjoy!

  4. Have fun at IRC! We don't know HOW important PD is, until we don't have ANY! I have NOT attended an out-of-district PD in years! I need to get on that bandwagon, SOON! Have fun! Take pics of EVERYTHING you see...to recall when you get home! :) Wendy 1stgradefireworks 1stgradefireworks

    1. We have loads of in-district PDs, but you're right! Getting out to a PD with the big names in reading research is amazing! ;) Thanks for the tips and stopping by, Wendy! :)

  8. I can relate to having to clean out the car for fear that others will be riding in the mess... I just drove a group of us to a training recently and the night before was car cleaning night! :) I hope you have a great time and learn lots at the conference - it sounds like a good one!
