Hello! I’m Colleen and this is year number 19 in education for me. I’m a gal who loves teaching primary students. Over the past 19 years, I taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade. About 6 years ago, I switched out of the classroom and became a Reading Specialist in a K-5 elementary school. Teaching reading to children is my true passion.
I was born and raised in the western suburbs of the Chicagoland area, which is also where I teach. While teaching in my current school 9 years ago, I met my handsome husband. He was a substitute art teacher in my school. After many months of seeing one another in the halls, he asked me out on our first

date with a little note in my mailbox (so sweet!). We’ve never parted since that first date, even though he left my school to become a full-time art teacher in another district. :) We married three years later and now have a set of boy-girl twins after being together for 9 years. Needless to say, my husband and I partake in a busy household! :)
I thank God everyday for all of the blessings in my life, including the opportunity to read educational blogs created by others. I never dreamed I would be teaming up with my colleagues to start a blog about our literacy adventures, but reassurance from friends and family (especially, my supportive husband), got me here. After reading numerous blogs over the past few years to gain insight from others, I decided perhaps I have ideas to contribute as well. Hopefully, what I share will be helpful to someone out there in the blogging world!
Thanks for your time and please come back for a visit!
I love the story about how you met your husband! So so cute!! :-)
