My Favorite Subject to Teach and Five for Friday! Blogging Challenge Day 4

Day 4: What is your favorite subject to teach or lesson to teach?  (& Five for Friday)

If you’ve already inferred that my favorite subject to teach is Reading, knowing I’m a Reading Specialist, you’d be correct!  You’ll hear much more from me in my future posts regarding reading, so I’m going to take this chance to link up with Doodle Bug’s Five for Friday instead!  However, don’t fret.  I’ve incorporated some literacy practice along with the practice of good health habits in my “Five”.  This will be my very first Five for Friday post.    Here it goes…

I am at the lake house in Wisconsin, relaxing with my family for the long holiday weekend.  I am also enjoying my twins practicing Yoga poses for good health and their ABCs to build a strong reading foundation, too!

If you need a great book suggestion that incorporates Yoga and the ABCs for kids, check this one out at Amazon: The ABCs of Yoga for Kids by Teresa Anne Power.  I actually own this book because a friend/retired colleague knew that I enjoyed exercising as much as I enjoy literacy.  She also thought it would be a good one to own, since, at the time, I was pregnant with my twins.  She figured I would be instilling good health habits with my own children. (You're right, Kathy K!  I'm putting it to great use, so thanks again!)

My kids like to warm up prior to jumping into the “serious stuff”.  My daughter’s preference for her warm up is the Cat pose.  My son likes the Dog pose …Okay, watch the masters in action.

Pose # 1:
 The Tree Pose
(modified by my son for a little extra balance support)

Pose # 2:
“Do Nothing”
(once again, modified by my son, but taken seriously by my daughter- correct form is important to her- even her eyes are closed)

P.S. Notice their toes? They are painted for the holiday spirit- my son wanted "blue for boys" and my daughter wanted red…

Pose #3:
Easy Pose
(yes, yes, my son is once again modifying the pose by looking around to see who he can smile at...which was me ;)

Pose # 4:
Rag Doll
(maybe she'll be a Yoga instructor one day??)

Pose # 5:
Knot
(it seems to be my daughter’s favorite pose)

Well, there you have it.  My very first Five for Friday!  I hope you learned something from my twins.  Actively engaging in literacy practices takes good form and dedication, you know… ;)

Thanks again for hosting the Five for Friday, Doodle Bugs!

    1. Hello! I visited your blog earlier this morning and left a comment. Yes, our blog may be a tad confusing at the moment. That's why we've been labeling everything with each of our names first, in hopes to make it easier. :) Thanks for the warm welcome to blogsville and stopping by! I will definitely have to check out your Funny Kid Friday linky. I may just do that now. ;)

  9. This might seriously be the cutest blog post I have ever send. Your kids are yoga pros. We used to do it after lunch, and I always looked ridiculous. Your kids could teach me a few things. :)
