My Favorite Sports Teams: Blogging Challenge Day 5

Day 5: For which teams do you get out your pompoms?

I must say that many of my colleagues think I’m somewhat of a “pud”, which isn’t even a real word, but that’s what they call me because I don’t really ever keep up with sports.  This is all said in a kind, joking manner, of course, because I’m part of their “school family”, so they still dig me. :) They chit-chat at lunch, on almost a daily basis, about whatever sport is in season, but I’m clueless.

Being from the Chicagoland area, I could say I’m a Bears fan, but not one of those diehards like some out there.  If people are watching it on TV and I’m in the vicinity, sure, I’ll watch.  If I’m invited to any sporting event to get out and be social, sure!  I’m in!  When it comes to baseball, I’m always being told, “You can’t be a Cubs fan AND a Sox fan!”  Why not?  Is it against the law of fans?

Being a teacher, I’m often exposed to those school spirit days that are sports-themed.  When I get word that we are supposed to wear our favorite sports apparel to school the next day, I cringe.  I don’t cringe on purpose.  It’s just that I didn’t (past tense) own sports clothing, unless it was strictly for working out at the gym.  That is, until I spotted some very cute, cheap sports apparel at Old Navy!  I could only find the Cubs t-shirt online as an example.  Maybe I snatched up the last cute Bear's t-shirt?

I now own a Cubs shirt (they didn’t have a Sox shirt, but I’m not allowed to be a Cubs and Sox fan anyway) and a Bears shirt!  Does that make me a Cubs and Bears fan now?

Even though I went to the University of Iowa way back when, I don’t own any Hawkeye apparel  I used to, though, when I attended.  When people find out I went to school there, I always reply, “Go Hawkeyes!”  I don’t know why.  I even put “Go Hawkeyes!” in my “Bigtime Literacy’s Blogging Challenge- Day 2” post!  I’ve only watched a handful of games… when I attended school there, but not one time since I’ve graduated!  Anyway, I still need to get a Hawkeye shirt, since we have favorite college spirit days throughout the year.

Needless to say, I don’t own any pompoms and wouldn’t quite know who to cheer for anyway, but I’m still a nice person. ;)

P.S. On a little side note, today is my 6th wedding anniversary with my handsome husband.  We are headed out on the town in Wisconsin to have some celebration time, while the twins hang with my family.  I’m looking forward to a toast with my hubby, with no children around for a bit! ;)

By the way, I hope I'm not the only blogger in the blogging community that isn't a diehard sports fan. :-D

  4. Happy anniversary! I am not a sports fan either. When kids ask my favorite team my response is usually, "Who do you think I should cheer for?" And that is my answer for the day. :)

    1. That's an awesome response. Not only to the students, but to anyone that asks about a favorite team. If you don't mind, I may start using that response as well. Ha! ;)

    1. Ha, well, maybe I will just have to get a Sox shirt, too. ;) Thanks about the picture. We just took it last night while hanging out, since I knew I wanted to put a little comment about it in my post.
